This multidisciplinary study demonstrates the successful long-term suppression of a multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa prosthetic joint infection using personalized bacteriophage therapy. Combining clinical observations with genomic and molecular analyses, the team shows how bacteriophages can disrupt bacterial biofilms and reduce bacterial virulence, providing an important proof-of-concept for personalized phage therapy as a potential treatment for otherwise untreatable chronic infections. This work highlights the promise of precision phage therapy in addressing antimicrobial-resistant biofilm infections.
